Biography

Lawrence J. Cohen, K.C. is a barrister and solicitor based in Hamilton and serving clients in Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area on Ontario legal matters. He is now in his 60th year of legal practice and is a Life Member of the Law Society of Ontario.

More than five decades at the Bar have given Lawrence a long perspective on legal practice: laws and procedures change, but clients continue to need a lawyer who will understand the problem, explain the choices and bring sound judgment to the next step.

Lawrence was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1980. Following the accession of King Charles III, the designation became King’s Counsel. The distinction forms part of a professional career that has now entered its sixth decade.

Lawrence continues to practice from the downtown Hamilton office alongside Joshua S. Cohen, serving clients in Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area. His experience contributes to the practice’s broad perspective across litigation, personal legal planning, property and other matters that often intersect.

For Lawrence, longevity in practice is not simply a measure of time. It is the accumulated perspective that comes from helping clients make consequential decisions, seeing disputes from more than one angle and recognizing when a practical resolution should be pursued and when a legal position must be firmly advanced.
