Clarity before action
A legal matter can affect your family, livelihood, property, freedom or plans for the future. We bring the matter into focus by listening carefully, identifying the legal and practical issues, and explaining the available paths in clear language so that the next decision can reflect your priorities and the realities of the situation.

Understand the problem. Explain the options. Move with purpose.
We begin with context
The legal issue is only one part of the situation. We take time to understand the history, relationships, documents, deadlines and practical concerns that will shape the right approach.
We make the law understandable
Clients should be able to make informed decisions. We explain the relevant law, the available options and the likely process without unnecessary jargon.
We address the next decision candidly
Some matters call for negotiation. Others require mediation, a formal application, a transaction closing or litigation. We explain the available path, including strengths, risks, cost and uncertainty, so that each decision has a realistic basis.
Lawrence and Joshua bring different professional histories to a shared way of working: listen carefully, explain clearly and approach each next step with purpose.
Perspective formed across a long legal career
Lawrence J. Cohen is in his 60th year of practice, is a Life Member of the Law Society of Ontario and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1980. He continues to practice from the downtown Hamilton office, serving clients in Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Over that time, changing law and procedure have reinforced the value of identifying the real decision, considering the issue from more than one angle and giving the client a clear account of the available path.
Meet Lawrence J. CohenA calm, focused approach to difficult decisions
Joshua S. Cohen was called to the Bar in 2001 and practices in Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area. In addition to his legal work, he has taught yoga and meditation for many years in studios, teacher-training programs, hospitals, retirement communities and professional settings.
That background helps him listen carefully and relate to each client. It also informs the way he works: staying focused under pressure and helping clients separate immediate emotion from the decisions that need to be made.
